Dean McLellan, Field Director for the Walling association is looking to hire a laborer for the summer season. Position would be ideal for a university or high school student looking to gain some experience in the masonry field. Heavy lifting and long hours are involved. Interested persons can contact Dean via email at hlmasonry@hsfx.ca. A car would be an asset but is not necessary. Dean is located in the Mount Forest area but works all across southern Ontario.

On June 14-15 the DSWAC will run a two-day dry-laid walling workshop, to teach people the basics of using inexpensive random fieldstone to create a section of traditional free- standing garden wall. June 14-15

This will be an outdoor workshop held on a country estate ten minutes north of the 401 near Port Hope, an hour's drive east of Toronto, Ontario.

No tools are required, just enthusiasm for working with stone and a simple desire to learn how to build with a natural stone material that doesn't rot , need painting or fall down after a few years.

Fee for the for two day course - $350. includes instructional literature, coffee, snacks, lunches, professional hands-on training and all GST .

A great two days was spent learning to build dry stone walls during a crisp (but dry) weekend in November in scenic Beaver Valley Ontario Canada.

During the last half of October 2007, the DSWAC was invited to Glendale Gardens
to help run some more dry stone walling workshops
in British Columbia on Vancouver Island.
These two day workshops were very well attended
and produced some wonderful new stone walls.

On Saturday and Sunday July 14/15th, the DSWAC hosted it's first ever "blackhouse" construction seminar.

Over the two days students were given an opportunity to help with the building of a completely dry laid structure like the blackhouses of Scotland.

The workshop took place in historic Holstein Ontario, which lies just outside of Mount Forest.
