On August 20th members of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Canada gathered for an official Pot Luck BBQ at the property of DWASC members Virginia and Mike Patten in Whitby Ontario. The weather co-operated, and it was great opportunity for getting to know one another, with lots of great food, enthusiastic conversation, and a challenging walling competition, involving having participants single-handedly (knees and feet were allowed to) building as large an arch as they could using very roundish fieldstone provided for the occasion. This event was as challenging to watch as it was to actually do, because of the tremendous temptation to join in and help competitors struggling to keep their stones in position. The winning arches were large enough to crawl under. Thanks to everyone who came out to this event and make it such a great day
