| 2007 July 14-15 Blackhouse Construction |
Ten enthusiasts in the technique of building in the dry stone method completed about a third of the project, working in rainy, somewhat adverse conditions. The 5 foot 6 inch door opening was spanned with a suitable lintel stone and much of the 20' X 15' stone building was walled to over (or close to) waist height.
The professional wallers and DSWAC students who took part in this event were happy to have achieved so much in the two days of building and are all looking forward to the second phase (and possible its completion) which is planned for next spring, 2008. Here are some pics of that workshop and a picture of what, for now, is possibly the first half-finished dry stone hut to be built in Canada in many years.
