Our Lady Peace is a Canadian band from Toronto with albums: Naveed and Clumsy.  OLP is a top-notch alternative band with some great tunes.  So great that they are my favourite band in the world.  They put on an amazing concert on Jan. 17, '98, at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto with Everclear that I was priviledged enough to whitness.  I'd recommend their CDs to anyone.

Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins is an American band with five lp albums to their name.  There most recent album entitled Adore, arrived in July /98.  They've toned their alternative sound down a bit on this album to add more feeling and emotion.  Ava Adore and Perfect are the hits so far and I'm sure won't be the last.  This is an ingenious band with lots of electronics, an amazing alternative sound, and lyrics you can relate to and think about.

The Tragically Hip is a Canadian band which has been around for many years.  They've published seven regular albums and one live album.  Live Between Us is a compilation of their previous hits and songs and is quite entertaining.  Phantom Power is the newest album, which came out in July /98.  Poets is the first hit from the album.  They're one of Canada's most popular bands but unfortunately only in Canada.  I hope that their international conquest goes well.  Their music is worthy of international standing.  Great lyrics, great music, and great rock!

Stabbing Westward
Stabbing Westward is an American band from Chigago. They have three albums released.  Their first was called Ungod.  It was very industrial and didn't really lift off.  Wither, Blister, Burn, and Peel was more moderate industrial with hit song, What do I have to do?  Darkest Days, their most recent album is a combination of the two.  It's very industrial but it's a very emotional industrial rather than sonic indusrial.  Great beats, experimentation, guitars, and deep lyrics.  Latest hit is Save Yourself.  An amazing band full of emotion and heavy sound.

Garbage is an English band with a self-titled album and their newest album: Version 2.0. They reached superstardom with their hit #1 Crush on the Romeo and Juliet album and with Push It from their new album. I Think I'm Paranoid and Special were to follow and hopefully my personal favourite, When I Grow Up, will be next. They have a great alternative electronic sound with some fun beats. A really cool sound. Garbage

Spirit of the West
Spirit Of The West is a Celtic origin band from the west coast of Canada.  They've had an outstanding nine albums!  Their first four albums were quite Celtic but they've converted to a more Celtic rock.  It's quite a great combination.  Their album Save This House is what really popularized them with their amazing Home For A Rest song.  A great, uplifting, exiting, fun, drinking song.  Their most recent album is called Weights And Measures which was released in late Sep. '97.  A fantastic band with high energy and creative lyrics.

Radiohead is a very prestigious English group with Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer. Their most well known songs include Creep, High and Dry, Paranoid Android, and many others. My personal favourite is Karma Police from their newest album. Lots of great variety and experimentation with sound. A very different, alternative sounding group. Radiohead

Bush Bush is an English band with albums: Sixteen Stone, Razorblade Suitcase, and Deconstructed.  Deconstructed was released on Dec. 12th and includes remixes of previous songs.  Bush is an outstanding alternative band!  I've seen them in two amazing concerts and for all the girls out there, I believe that you'll find Gavin Rossdale quite attractive.  : )  Machinehead from their first album is one of my favourite songs of all time.  Great rock & alternative with lots of energy.

The Tea Party is a Canadian band with albums: Splendor Solis, The Edges of Twilight, Alhambra, and Transmission.  Their first two albums have guitar genius at its best!  The guitar work of Jeff Martin is tantalizingly outstanding!  Alhambra is an enhanced CD, which demonstrates the cool instruments that they use in the first two albums, a few video clips, and other cool stuff.  It also has six remixes of some of the songs on The Edges of Twilight.  Their most recent album was published in June, '98, called Transmission.  They inserted a much more electrical tinge and it sounds great.  Temptation and Babylon are my two favs from it.  They also put on a great concert!  Cool beats and great lyrics.  The Tea Party are an all out dynamic band with a great sense of music.

Everclear Everclear is an American band with albums: World Of Noise, Sparkle And Fade, and So Much For The Afterglow.  Their most recent album is what got me hooked with the hit Everything To Everyone.  They've also had several hits since that too.  They also openned an Our Lady Peace concert in Toronto on Jan. 17, '98 that I went to.  Great alternative but not too hard core.  Really cool sound with great lyrics.

Econoline Crush is a Canadian band with albums: Affliction and The Devil You Know.  Their first album didn't really take off but is still pretty good industrial.  Their recent album had the hit All That You Are which increased their popularity.  They've then had Sparkle and Shine and other hits that really put them into the next level.  They have a great alternative sound with a great beat, and lyrics that you can understand.  What a combination!

Foo Fighters Foo Fighters is an American band with a self-titled album and The Colour And The Shape. Hits include This Is A Call, Stick Around, Big Me, Monkey Wrench, My Hero, and my personal favourite (and one of my favourite songs of all time) Everlong. The lead singer is the drummer from Nirvana, making Foo Fighters a great continuation of the originators of grunge alternative! Great alternative sound, great creativity and moderness.

Silverchair is an Australian band with albums: Frogstomp and Freakshow.  Silverchair's members started at the early age of 17 years old.  They've come a long way at this early stage of their life with hit songs Freak, Abuse Me, and many others.  A great, strong alternative band!

Semisonic Semisonic is an American band with the best song of all time! Closing Time from their most recent album, Feeling Strangely Fine is such an amazing song. It's great to listen to and lyrics are very meaningful. Singing in my Sleep was their second hit off that album, which is also quite cool. I also really like DND. The band started in 1995 with an EP called Pleasure which includes some out-of-the-basement demos. The Great Divide was their first full album, released in 1996. Semisonic has a unique, amazing, and happy sound that is great for listening to.

Great Big Sea is just recently becoming quite popular across Canada and some of the norhtern States.  They are a Canadian band from Newfoundland with albums: Great Big Sea, Up and Play.  They play great Celtic music!  High energy, great stories, and lots of fun.  Gets anyone out of a bad mood.  I've seen a couple of their concerts in Toronto and I got my car broken into while I was down there one of the times.  But listening to GBS put me back into a good mood and released my stress.  A superb band.  They put on a great show!

Moist
Moist is a Canadian band with albums: Silver and CreatureSilver had the hits Push and SilverCreature was released in late '96 and is an amazing album.  Resurrection was their best hit but they also four other songs that made it to the hit parade like Tangerine as well.  With great rock and cool lyrics, Moist has made it to be one of the best bands in Canada.

Blur is a British band with five albums to their name.  You may recognize hits such as Boys and Girls, Parklife, Country House, and Charmless Man from their earliest albums.  Their newest self titled album is quite popular having five hits!  Song 2 is my personal fav.  Each of their songs are quite different and they have experimented with lots of cool sounds.  Their creativity in both music and lyrics is what has made this band hit the top of my charts!  Lots of fun in concert, too!

Age of Electric
The Age Of Electric is a Canadian band with a self titled album and Make A Pest A Pet.  Their claim to fame is their song, Remote Control but my favourite song is I Don't Mind.  They have a great sound!  Easy to play yet extremely catchy songs.  Great alternative!

The Violent Femmes is an American band that's been around for a while.  Way back in '82, they had the hit Blister In The Sun and I still hear that song at many dances that I go to.  American Music is another of my favourites which was released in '90.  They released a greatest hits album called Add It Up (1981-1993).  This has all of their best!  They missed some of my other favourites but it has most of them.  Their newest album is called New Times with a couple really cool songs.  Great, fun rock with some great creative lyrics.  They have a very distinctive sound and are one of the early alternative type bands.
